Biography
A dashing outside-left, Evans first came to prominence with Everton making his debut in a regional league clash with Preston in March 1919. After two further first team outings for the Blues, he played for a North Wales XI against Billy Meredith's Welsh International XI in an end of season Charity Match at the Racecourse.
Granted a free transfer by the Goodison Park side in May 1920, Evans initially joined Wrexham on trial before signing permanently ahead of the new campaign. The Holywell-born winger quickly established himself in the Wrexham side as the they swept to the top of the Birmingham & District League table. However a shock FA Cup defeat at the hands of West Cheshire League side Buckley United saw Evans lose his place, Bert Goode replacing him on the wing whilst John Taylor took over at centre-forward.
In a strange twist of fate Evans then signed for Buckley where his impressive form earned him a move to Tranmere ahead of the 1922-23 campaign. His first Football League start for Rovers came in a 1-1 draw with Stalybridge Celtic, Evans netting the first of his five goals for the club in a 2-1 home win over Halifax. After a fine first season, the winger gradually struggled to hold down a regular first team place with his final appearance coming alongside a young Dixie Dean in a FA Cup tie with Southport in November 1924. He left Prenton Park the following year, joining Welsh National League side Mold Town.
