Match Report

An entertaining encounter played on the artificial pitch at the Colliers Park training ground ended all square thanks to a Matty Hurdman free kick seven minutes from time. The Cymru Alliance side, managed by ex-Red Roger Preece, had taken a 2-1 lead on the hour mark but Hurdman earned a young Dragons side a well-deserved draw with his second free kick goal of the evening.

Mark Stewart twice went close to opening the scoring but his 10th minute effort drifted just wide and three minutes later he saw a 22-yard free kick finger-tipped over the bar by former Wrexham keeper Phil Sadler in the Park goal. Six minutes before the interval the Dragons broke the deadlock when Hurdman’s right foot free kick from 25 yards out found the top right hand corner of the net, but almost immediately the visitors equalised with a well-taken goal.

Following the visitors’ second goal, chances came and went at both ends until Hurdman struck with his second free kick, this time sending a low right-foot curler into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. The midfielder then had the chance to complete his hat trick in the closing seconds but this time his free kick struck the defensive wall.
