Match Report

Wrexham's youngsters began their pre-season preparations with a short trip to Clywedog Park to face NW Ardal League side Brickfield Rangers. On a sun-drenched evening, the Young Reds struggled to come to terms with the bumpy surface but still enjoyed the majority of possession during a goalless first-half.

Coach Dan Nolan made seven changes at the interval with the back four comprising three 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old. Despite the youthful nature of the side, Wrexham continued to press and Ethan Simpson saw a close range header rattle the crossbar shortly after the restart. Callum Edwards almost broke the deadlock on 85 minutes when he capitalised on good work by Simpson before dragging his shot wide of the far post. The game was decided in the final minute when Cameron Thomas broke clear to place a low shot past the advancing Jack Pilkington in the Wrexham goal.

It was a harsh lesson for the Young Reds but Dan Nolan was pleased with the workout: "The lads have only been back in training for a couple of days so we were understandably scratchy in the first-half. We made several changes and looked more likely to score in the second-half. All the players had a good run out and will benefit from it."
