Whilst cup holders Bangor were drawn at home, the expectation was that the tie would be switched to the Racecourse because the Bangor ground was too small to meet the rules of the Competition. The Bangor committee wrote to Wrexham asking if they would object, with the Wrexham Argus reporting that "they naturally replied in the affirmative."
The tie went ahead as originally scheduled but was played under protest. The Welsh FA subsequently ordered the game to be replayed with Wrexham having home advantage.
