Kai Evans was the star of the show as Wrexham ran out comfortable 4-1 winners against a previously unbeaten AFC Fylde side, the result confirming the Young Reds place at the top of the fledgling league table.
After a lacklustre showing last time out at Buxton, Wrexham showed their attacking intent from the off and took the lead with a goal of real quality inside the first three minutes, Evans rounding off a fine flowing move with Dan Jones playing the decisive pass to put his strike-partner clean through on goal.
Whilst the home side dominated possession, they had to wait until the 25-minute mark to double their advantage, Evans superbly creating space to shoot low past the keeper into the bottom right-hand corner of his net.
The combination of Evans and Jones provided a constant threat to the Coasters’ defence and Evans sent a rasping shot narrowly over the bar before Jones added a deserved third goal on the stroke of half-time after a fine pass from left-back Joe Fountain.
After a series of substitutions, the game sparked back into life midway through the second period when the newly introduced Jack Towse, just on for Jones, capitalised on a neat pass from Evans to shoot narrowly over.
Evans then produced another moment of sublime skill when he weaved his way past six defenders only to see his shot blocked by the legs of Fylde keeper Cian McPartland. The relief was merely temporary for the visitors as Evans completed his hat-trick sixty seconds later, sub Jacob Milner grabbing an assist in the process with a superb pass.
Reds’ custodian Louis Parr made his first real save of note on 84 minutes when he kept out a near post effort from Denhim Minors but, from the resultant corner, the tall Fylde centre-forward got his own name on the scoresheet with a free header from inside the six-yard box.
So no clean sheet for Reds but a much improved performance and one which will have delighted Dan Nolan and Cledwyn Ashford.
