Match Report

In the afternoon before the Wales versus Norway international at the Racecourse the Dragons slipped to a third defeat in four outings as the Wirral side clinch the points by the odd goal in five at Prenton Park. Trinidadian international Cornell Glen put the home team in front on 14 minutes with a deflected shot off full back Matty Done after doing well to escape the attentions of Shaun Pejic on the edge of the Wrexham penalty-area.

On loan striker Rob Duffy, who had grabbed a brace in the 3-0 win at Rochdale on his debut a week earlier, pulled the Dragons back onto level terms with a crisp shot on the turn after 32 minutes. Duffy’s first touch for the goal was exquisite as he managed to get the ball out from his body to give him the time to volley past the Rovers keeper from a narrow angle.

However in the second half Rovers’ Chris Greenacre put the home side back in front on 47 minutes after Anthony Williams has saved Tom Beahon's first shot. With six minutes remaining Rovers hit their third, when Glen crashed home a great drive from 20-yards. But there was still time for Duffy to grab his and Wrexham’s second of the day, in the last minute, bringing his tally to four in two reserve team games, when he headed home neatly from a Done cross.
