With League rules requiring competing teams to play a minimum of six professionals, Wrexham opted to include five amateurs in their starting eleven against a Barrow side fresh from a 6-0 home win over Chester Reserves. Having netted a hat-trick in that opening fixture, striker Jimmy Mulholland was again on hand to give the Cumbrians an interval lead at the Racecourse.
Jimmy Mulvaney doubled Barrow’s lead after the break before a strike from amateur Terry Janicki instigated a late fight back from the Reds but it was not enough to save Wrexham from their first Northern Floodlit League defeat of the season.
