Wrexham headed north to Kendal Town to face a Morecambe side who were looking to gain revenge for a narrow 2-1 defeat against the Young Reds just two weeks earlier. With both Patrick Jones and Cian Williams away on international duty, coach Dan Nolan could only name two substitutes for the midweek encounter.
After an even opening with few incidents of note, Reds keeper Ben Tinkley had to be alert to turn a shot from Kai Hubert onto his crossbar after the Shrimpers’ striker had skilfully evaded his markers. The Wrexham defence failed to heed this warning and soon found themselves a goal down, Freddie Price cutting the ball back across the face of the six-yard box for Kaleb Young to rifle home from close range. Undeterred, the visitors started to gain a greater share of possession with both Kyle Robinson-Murray and Cameron McGregor causing the home side problems down the flanks.
After the interval Wrexham had a good shout for a penalty turned down when Calum Huxley looked to be barged off the ball, before Jack Thorn shot narrowly wide with a curling effort from some 20-yards out. An equaliser seemed on the cards and duly arrived on 57 minutes when Thorn centred from the right and Matt Jones forced the ball home at the near post to make it one-all.
Morecambe responded well and Tinkley did well to deny Young, this time getting his body behind a goal bound free-kick before pushing away another long range effort from Morecambe substitute Josh Giacomina. Young thought he had restored the home side’s advantage when he beat two men and the diving Tinkley only to see his shot cleared off the line by Thorn.
Ryan Williams was introduced for Jack Allen with 17 minutes left, the left-back making a welcome return from injury having managed just one other appearance since late September. Cameron McGregor had a late effort saved by Morecambe custodian Ollie Juneau but a draw was a fair result and extended the Young Reds’ unbeaten run to an impressive eight matches in the process.
