Wrexham’s youngsters continued their impressive start to the season with a comprehensive victory over Buckley Town at Stansty. Despite the scoreline, the visitors never resorted to foul play and could take great credit from their display. Buoyed by their midweek win FA Youth Cup over Solihull Moors, Dan Nolan’s charges romped into a four goal lead inside the first quarter of an hour as they ruthlessly exploited their greater pace down both wings.
Matt Jones netted the first from close range on 5 minutes before Calum Huxley doubled the Young Reds lead barely sixty seconds later. Lewis Parry added a third from the spot on 12 minutes before the striker then capitalised on a poor clearance to net his second goal of the game. With goalkeeper Jack Edwards in fine form for the visitors, Wrexham had to wait until the half-hour mark to score again as Huxley broke down the left and pulled the ball back for Jones to net with a composed finish.
Huxley himself made it 6-0 on 32 minutes before centre-back Max Cleworth scored twice inside two minutes. The defender’s first goal on 35 minutes owed much to the fine delivery of Huxley’s corner whilst the second was a tap-in after Ryan Austin’s header was initially only parried by the over-worked Edwards. Left-back Billy Nichols added a ninth on 40 minutes before Huxley completed his hat-trick in first-half stoppage time.
With Cleworth and Jones replaced at the interval by Osian Hughes and Jac Humphreys respectively, Wrexham continued their relentless quest for further goals with Parry completing his hat-trick immediately after the restart.
Nichols netted another close range effort on 61 minutes before Huxley made it 13-0 with an acrobatic finish from Jamie Nash’s right-wing cross some ten minutes later. From the restart Huxley grabbed his fifth when Edwards’ fine save fell perfectly at the onrushing forward’s feet before Bobby Beaumont showed tremendous footwork to score with a close range shot with some 15 minutes remaining.
Buckley deservedly got on the scoresheet on 82 minutes when substitute Rhys Powell’s fine free-kick from the edge of the penalty area left Wrexham keeper Ben Tinkley stranded. Wrexham completed the scoring in injury time when Huxley pounced on a fine centre from Sam Williams to net his sixth goal of an entertaining if one-sided encounter.
