Match Report

Wrexham travelled to Llandudno Junction to face the league leaders and produced an excellent display against a side who had lost just once in 12 games.

United opened the scoring on 15 minutes when Bob McAdam slotted past Earl Godding after good work by Johnny Roberts. Ten minutes later, Lee Williams deputising for Wrexham's injured centre-half, Wyn Hughes, handled and Roberts scored from the spot at the second attempt.

Referee Maldwyn Hughes had warned Godding that he was standing off his line prior to the first kick with the result that the young keeper's superb save proved in vain as he had failed to heed the official's advice.

With Wrexham's right-wing pairing of Gary Owen and Peter Hencher causing the home defence all sorts of problems with their swift counter attacks, it was no surprise that the Colts pulled a goal back through the former on 37 minutes. Hencher then made it 2-2 just three minutes later.

Borough started the second period in determined fashion and quickly regained the lead through Roberts who completed his hat-trick with a fine 25-yard shot on 79 minutes. Merseyside-based Chris Murphy rounded off the scoring for United.
