After a six-year absence, Wrexham's return to the Welsh League (North) saw them travel to Porthmadog to face a side with genuine championship aspirations.
Having reached the final of the Welsh Amateur Cup just three months earlier, Porth's more experienced side dominated the proceedings from the off with Welsh amateur international inside-left Billy Griffiths a constant threat.
Ably led by former Derby County centre-forward Ray Wilkins, the young Reds had their moments and scored twice through Peter Hencher but could easily have lost by a far wider margin.
H.T. Jones, John Richards and Dai Lloyd netted for the home side who "should have reaped a harvest of goals from the stream of openings made by Griffiths" according to the Daily Post correspondent.
