The match was postponed 30 minutes before kick-off. With the surface covered in frozen snow, the home club had liberally laid sand on top and painted the pitch markings in blue paint. Referee H.T. Wright (Macclesfield) deemed the conditions dangerous and called the game off much to the disappointment of the home officials.
