After a coach journey over the snow covered Pennines, the Wrexham party were having a pre-match lunch at a nearby Halifax hotel when director T.H. Dodd received a phone call from a Bradford City official to say the match was off. With the Valley Parade pitch waterlogged, the match referee was left with little choice and so for the second Saturday running the Wrexham players were left kicking their heels.
It was decided that the players should have a 'Busman's Holiday' by going to watch the Second Division clash between Manchester City and Bolton Wanderers. Wrexham trainer Jack Jones telephoned his old friend Joe Mercer, the City manager, and he immediately agreed to reserve some tickets for the party. For the record, City won 4-1 with future Wrexham youth coach Cliff Sear amongst the home side's scorers.
