Wrexham
P - P
Darlington

FA Cup
(1st Round, Replay)
Monday, November 20th, 1972
Racecourse Ground
7:15pm kick-off

The match was postponed an hour before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch. Referee Ted Jolly, who made his decision after a downpour had engulfed the Racecourse playing surface, said: "It was waterlogged right down the centre. Play would have been farcical."

The postponement upset Darlington manager Allan Jones whose team had made a 400 mile round trip in vain. It also meant that Stuart Mason would be suspended for the re-arranged game 48 hours later, the Wrexham defender having received a two-match ban for collecting his third booking of the season against Halifax earlier in the month.
