Match postponed on the morning of the game by referee Walter Johnson (Kendal) due to the Vale Park pitch being covered in four inches of snow and ice. Wrexham had requested the game be moved back to the Saturday to avoid growing fixture congestion but this was quickly vetoed by the local authorities.
Speaking to the Sentinel's Chris Harper, referee Johnson explained: "The match would have been a farce but the first of many considerations had to be given to spectators. The game would have attracted a good crowd but the terraces would not, in my opinion, have been safe especially if there were a frost tonight."
