Formed: 1886 (Ceased 1939)
Ground: Craven Street, Birkenhead
Nickname:

Football in Hoylake can be traced back to 1886 with the first games being played on a field halfway between Hoylake and West Kirby, adjoining the Royal Liverpool Golf Course. By the late 1880s the club had moved grounds to the Hoylake Enclosure next to the Railway Station and in 1892 they joined the West Cheshire League. Runners-up to Ellesmere Port in their inaugural season, Hoylake lifted the title in 1910 and 1912.

Over the years a number of other sides, such as Hoylake United and Hoylake Trinity, vied for local supremacy but the area struggled to maintain junior football. The West Cheshire League fell on hard times and decided to suspend activities in 1929 with Hoylake sting to follow Ellesmere Port Cement and Little Sutton in joining the Liverpool District League.

The arrival of J.A. McGowan as club secretary and treasurer brought fresh impetus off the pitch with a 300-seater stand being built at their new Craven Street home in 1934. The fact that Hoylake had moved to Birkenhead was indicative of the ground shortage that beset so many clubs in Liverpool and Wirral areas. Sadly their stay there proved short-lived and the ground was advertised for sale in 1939, the club having ceased to exist.
