Formed: 1918
Ground: Boundary Lane
Nickname: United

Whilst Saltney's first sides date back as far as the early 1880s, the area struggled to maintain senior football during the pre-First World War era. A team bearing the name Saltney United is recorded as playing in the Chester & District League in 1901 but this has no direct link with the club that entered the Chester & Runcorn League in November 1918.

Early success came in the form of the League Cup, club captain Carter scoring the only goal of the game against local rivals Crichton's Athletic in the final. This encouraged United to join the Lancashire County Combination and they finished the 1919-20 campaign in a highly creditable fourth place behind champions Skelmersdale United.

United also reached the quarter-finals of the Welsh Cup, taking the lead at the Racecourse before losing 4-1, the final scoreline somewhat flattering the home side. The Boundary Lane side then clinched the George Mahon Cup, beating Clock Face in a replay at Prescot, before folding in the summer of 1920.
