Dixie resigned prior to the match against Torquay United on 31st October 1989. He was quoted in the club programme as saying "I resigned as I felt it was in the best interest of the club. Something had to be done because the club was going down the same old road, I tried to get money for new players but was told none was available. I honestly believe in view of everything this is time for change."
