The match was postponed on Friday 9th August as FC United were unable to field a side. They made the following statement:
Due to a shortage of available players this Sunday (11th August), we have made the difficult decision to postpone our friendly against Wrexham AFC Women.
This pre-season has presented challenges, with several teams, including ours, facing player shortages. The landscape of women's football is rapidly evolving, with new teams forming and increased competition for elite-level players. This has seen a number of clubs being forced to postpone friendlies over the last few weeks.
At the earliest opportunity, we contacted Wrexham to inform them of the situation and have issued refunds to all supporters who purchased tickets for the match.
Our manager, Jennie, along with the backroom team, has been working tirelessly to ensure we sign players of the highest quality. Jennie is in contact with numerous players—some exploring opportunities at higher levels before committing to play at Level 5—and has established strong connections with professional clubs. She is confident that we will assemble a competitive team for the upcoming season that will make us all proud.
We look forward to our opening league fixture against Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies 1st next Sunday (18th August).
The Board remains fully committed to supporting women’s football at FC United of Manchester. We will continue to provide the necessary resources and support to ensure the long-term success of our women’s team.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we prepare for an exciting season ahead.
