Wrexham Rout Druids at Stansty Park
A record attendance witnessed the first ever Wrexham Derby today as the Dragons welcomed Cefn Druids to Stansty Park and it was the mighty reds that walk away with the bragging rights after a dominate 15-1 slaughtering.
The game in fairness started out pretty evenly with Cefn clearly taking the game to Wrexham playing 4 up front, but a counter attack on 15" let in top goalscorer Lowri Edwards to fire home her first of the day.
Then just one minute later a pure class piece of skill down the right hand side made and finished by the outstanding Lyndsey Rodger on 16".
However confusion at the back on 23" led to a sublime finish for Cefn Druids to make it 2-1.
Wrexham picked up there game and started to play the ball with Chloe Foster, Mel Prince and Lyndsey Rodger dominating the midfield and if it wasn't for the very impressive Cefn goalkeeper it could have been all over. However on 30" Edwards added her second from close range after good work from Chloe Foster. On 36" Lowri Edwards had a great chance to get her 4th Hat-trick of the season but unselfishly squared the ball for Emma Roden to ram home from close range.
Then just 3 minutes later it became damage limitation for Cefn as Lyndsey Rodger slammed home her 2nd and Wrexhams 5th for the day, and the game was all but over on the half time whistle as Lexi Musgraves shot was headed into her own net by the Cefn centre half. Half-time 6-1.
Wrexham came out for the second 45 as determined as the first and just 3 minutes in Lyndsey Rodger completed her first hat-trick for the club. Not to be outdone Edwards then added her 3rd on 52" and her 4th just one minute later.
It became a game of tit for tat between the two as Rodger added her 4th on the hour.
Substitute Jade Gavan scored a sublime 11th for the Reds, before Rodger took the lead in her personal scoring battle with Edwards on 72". Lowri then scored her 5th to even the score with Lyndsey making it 13-1 on 79".
The impressive Chloe Foster then scored her first for Wrexham with a deflected finish on 82" and almost scored the goal of the season just a minute later with a mazy 15 yard run in which she left 5 Druids players for dead.
The personal battle was won in the 84th as Lowri Edwards scored her double hat-trick goal and Wrexham's 15th of the day.
Today was a great day for the Reds.
Player of the Day Lyndsey Rodger
